Materials and hardware

The hardware that moves the furniture every day, and the materials we build it from: MDF, particle board and solid wood.

Materials

MDF (medium-density fibreboard)

MDF (medium-density fibreboard)

It is denser than particle board and available in several forms.

  • Raw MDF

Used for painted fronts. Edges can be bevelled, and grooves and mouldings can be cut, so the look can run from contemporary to retro. We paint with specialist MDF coatings from the Italian manufacturer Renner.

  • Veneered MDF

Good durability, with real oak, walnut or ash veneer. Excellent for table tops, and also for modern kitchen and wardrobe fronts.

  • Foil-wrapped MDF

A good option for a minimalist style and flat fronts.

MDF resists moisture better than particle board, but it is not resistant to direct contact with water.

Particle board (Univer)

Particle board (Univer)

The base for carcasses in every specification. It is strong and dense enough to meet every structural requirement. Resistance to moisture and water is poor, which is why we do not recommend it for bathrooms.

The choice of decors is enormous. We work only with flat finishes, in ready-made foils. We partner with Kaindl and Kronospan, both from Austria.

On a budget specification, particle board is a sound choice for kitchen fronts as well. It is less durable than MDF and offers fewer ways to customise. It is the accessible starting option, and even there we do the best work that can be done.

Solid wood

Solid wood

  • Beech

Exceptionally strong and, thanks to steaming, flexible enough to take heavy loads. The grain is unobtrusive, so it is more often used for parts that stay out of sight. It copes poorly with water and moisture, which is why it is meant for interior use.

  • Oak

Excellent for both interior and exterior use. It has a handsome grain, suits both structure and visible parts, and handles moisture well. The drawback is a higher price.

In furniture, solid wood is most often used for fronts, table legs, shelves and stair treads.

Surface finish: as with MDF, we use Renner polyurethane (PU) coatings, stained to the tone you choose from the colour chart. For exterior use we use acrylic lacquer or natural oils.

Hardware

Hardware is what furniture actually does every day: opening doors, sliding drawers, lowering and lifting units. That is why we give it particular attention. We offer two manufacturers.

  • Poland

    GTV

Solid hardware at a fair price, with a standard 2-year warranty. A good choice for anyone who wants reliable furniture on a sensible budget.

  • Austria

    BLUM

Premium hardware with a 20-year warranty on mechanical parts and 5 years on electrical components. Quiet, precise and long-lasting mechanisms, including the Aventos lift system for wall cabinets and electronic touch-to-open.

Which option to choose?

  • Full Blum

For anyone who wants no compromises. From hinges and runners through to dampers and lift systems.

  • Combined option

Blum hinges with GTV for the rest. Hinges are the part used most, so that is where the investment pays off most, while the overall price stays lower.

The price difference can be significant. A GTV runner, for example, costs about 1,500 dinars, while a Blum runner is about 5,000. If you are comparing several quotes, check that the hardware is the same. In our quotes we state which hardware is fitted, so you can compare offers on equal terms.
